Bonita Pump Station Construction Update

Invasive species have been removed from the vegetated corridor around the protected wetland. Last week, organic compost was spread throughout the corridor in preparation for the seeding of native grasses. This week, the corridor was seeded with a native erosion control grass mix that is quick to establish, low-growing and has good root masses for reduced erosion of soil. The native grass mix includes ‘Meadow Barley’ and ‘Native Red Fescue’ (among other native grasses) and has excellent versatility and tolerance for various weather. The native grasses may start to emerge by early next week.

B Avenue Stormwater System Construction Update

This week, construction began for the much needed new stormwater system upgrade on B Avenue at State Street. During construction, B Ave. is closed to traffic between State and 1st St.

Change in work hours

Per ODOT requirements, B Avenue will be closed 24 hours a day, between OR43 and 1st St, Monday to Friday, during storm line construction. This closure will last through early September.

Support of the business community is a high priority for the project. To maximize productivity and complete construction of the stormwater system upgrade in advance of the 2014 holiday season, construction hours are being modified on B Ave. Once crews work through the first block of B Ave., west of 1st Street, work hours will change (from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) to 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday to Friday.

West Linn Pipeline Construction Update: Horizontal Directional Drilling site (end of Mapleton Dr.)

A milestone was reached last week, with the successful completion of the pilot hole! Drilling has been ongoing for a few weeks from either side of the river, with both drills meeting in the middle to complete the pilot hole.

Crews have now started the process of upsizing the hole to 36”. More passes will be made with larger drill bits (or reamers) over the next few months until the hole is large enough for the pipe to be pulled through.

During drilling work, neighbors may hear noise from the drill rig and an increase in truck traffic. Work hours are 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and Saturdays from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. No work will occur over the Labor Day weekend, from Saturday, August 30 – Monday, September 1.

Water Treatment Plant Construction Update

Over the last week, auger cast piles were drilled for the finished water pump station and concrete was poured for the chemical and electrical building slabs. Water testing of the solids storage tank also continued. Once the water test is complete and the coatings applied, the area around the solids storage tank will be backfilled.

Late next week, installation of the secondary power feed for the plant is expected to begin between the Kenthorpe Way plant entrance and the center of the site. This includes excavating, setting new vaults and an electrical meter slab. Neighbors close to the site on Kenthorpe Way may experience an increase in noise or potential vibration during the excavation.

Written by Saundra Sorenson, Lake Oswego Review

In the news...

Businesses will remain open on B Avenue even as construction begins next week on the first of two separate water projects, the Lake Oswego-Tigard Partnership has announced.

The first project, a stormwater system upgrade, is set to begin Monday and is slated to take three to four months. Construction work will take place on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., in compliance with city-approved construction hours — much to the relief of the partnership and of B Avenue businesses, said the partnership's communications director, Jane Heisler.
