West Linn Pipeline Construction Notice: Horizontal Directional Drilling site (end of Mapleton Dr.)

Starting next week, the contractor will begin preconstruction activity at the horizontal directional drilling (HDD) staging area at the end of Mapleton Drive, just north of Mary S. Young Park. This will include mobilizing equipment, placing rock in preparation for the arrival of drilling equipment, installing erosion control and security fencing and placing sound barriers.

Drilling work is expected to begin at the Mapleton HDD site from June 18, including installing a pipe casing prior to drilling the actual tunnel. During casing installation, it will be very noisy for approximately ½ hour periods between 9 a.m. and mid-afternoon, depending on neighbor locations. Following each ½ hour period, there will be a couple of hours of welding, which is not as noisy. Immediate neighbors may also experience some vibration during the casing installation. This work will take about 2 weeks to complete. Work hours are 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. Monday to Friday, and Saturdays from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Drilling work is also expected to begin on the Gladstone HDD site in Meldrum Bar Park from June 11, including installing pipe casing. Neighbors located along the river in West Linn may also hear noise during this activity, which should take about 2 weeks to complete. Work hours in Gladstone for the HDD are 7 a.m. - 6 p.m., Monday to Friday.

Construction on the Mapleton Drive pipeline is expected to begin in early 2015.
