West Linn Pipeline Construction Update: Horizontal Directional Drilling site (end of Mapleton Dr.)
Mobilization continues at the HDD site, just north of Mary S. Young Park
Crews are excavating, placing rock, fencing and building a work area at the HDD site, which will continue over the next week. A sound barrier will also be installed, prior to the pipe casing installation. Neighbors may notice an increase in truck traffic on Mapleton Drive as equipment arrives to the site and noise from new equipment operating at the site.
Pipe casing installation starting mid-next week – noisy activity
The pipe casing work originally scheduled to start tomorrow, is now expected to begin mid-next week, once the work area is complete. The 60-inch steel casing will be installed using a large pressurized hammer, through softer soils to reach solid ground. The casing provides protection for the pipe to be tunneled under the river.
During the pipe casing hammering (known as pipe ramming), it will be very noisy for approximately ½ -1 hour periods during work hours. The contractor will aim to start the noisiest work after 9am and finish by mid-afternoon, depending on conditions. Following each hammering period, there will be a couple of hours of welding, which is not as noisy. This work is expected to take about two weeks to complete, depending on ground conditions. Immediate neighbors to the site may experience some vibration during the casing installation. Work hours are 7am-7pm Monday to Friday, and Saturdays from 9am-5pm.
Meldrum Bar Park – casing installation continues
Casing installation continues at the Gladstone HDD site in Meldrum Bar Park. Neighbors located along the river in West Linn may hear noise during this activity, which is expected to take about two weeks to complete, depending on ground conditions. Work hours in Gladstone for the HDD are 7 a.m. - 6 p.m., Monday to Friday. Visit the website for more information on construction activities in Gladstone.
