West Linn Pipeline Construction Update: Horizontal Directional Drilling site (end of Mapleton Dr.)

Loading 17" drill pipe for the pilot hole

The new steering tool (gyroscope) arrived earlier this week, and drilling of the pilot hole under the river resumed. A new, quieter generator for the solids separation tank was also installed this week. You can learn more about this process by reading Water Savvy Issue 9: Horizontal Directional Drilling

The pilot hole is about 50% complete! The hole is being drilled through rock and is currently being upsized from 12” to 17“ diameter. One or two more passes with larger drill bits will continue over the next four months until the hole is large enough for the pipe to be pulled through.

During drilling, neighbors may hear noise from the drill rig, solids tank generator and an increase in truck traffic. Work hours are 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and Saturdays from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
