Crews are using a 36" drill bit or reamer, to enlarge the hole for the new, large water pipe.

Construction updates will now include all current or upcoming pipeline work for the project in West Linn. Click below for specific information on the following:

  • Horizontal directional drilling under the river, near Mary S. Young Park
  • Highway 43
  • Mapleton Drive
  • Neighborhood construction update meetings

Horizontal directional drilling under the river, near Mary S. Young Park

Work is almost complete on upsizing the hole under the river to 36”. More passes will be made with larger drill bits (or reamers) over the next month until the hole is large enough for the pipe to be pulled through.
“Pullback” of the pipe could occur as early as late September or early October, and could take between two to five days. A drill rig will pull the pipe through the hole under the river, from Meldrum Bar Park to Mary S. Young Park. During this phase, operations must occur round-the-clock, in a continuous fashion, to ensure the hole remains open. When more information is known about the schedule, neighbors will be notified in advance of this work.

During drilling work, neighbors may hear noise from the drill rig and an increase in truck traffic. Work hours are 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and Saturdays from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Highway 43 pipeline construction (night work) – expected to start this fall

Crews are expected to begin laying pipe on Hwy. 43 near Laurel St. in Lake Oswego, in late September. Work will progress south towards West Linn. All work on Hwy. 43 will occur during weeknights between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. In most areas on Hwy. 43, two way traffic will be maintained during construction. All lanes of traffic will be open during the day.

A second, northbound crew is expected to begin pipeline construction in late October or early November on Hwy. 43 at Mapleton Drive in West Linn, working north to Lazy River Drive.

Mapleton Drive – pipeline construction expected to begin next year

Pipeline construction along Mapleton Drive is expected to begin early next year and progress through early summer 2015.
