Pipe pullback under the Willamette has been completed!

On October 28, “pullback” of the pipe took place between about noon and midnight. It was a long day, but the work was completed in 12 hours, much faster than anticipated. A total of 4 barge mounted cranes and 2 land based cranes were needed to loft the pipe at the correct angle for insertion into the tunnel that had been drilled under the river over the past two months. Over a dozen tanker trucks removed drilling mud during the process from both the Meldrum Bar Park work site and the Mapleton work site. On the Mapleton side, equipment and drill pipe are being removed and the end of the pipe will be cut off, capped and buried. Pipe construction in Mapleton Drive will begin in early 2015. The HDD pipe will then be connected to the newly installed pipe in Mapleton Drive.

Highway 43 pipeline construction (night work)—starts mid-November in West Linn

Crews are expected to begin laying pipe on Hwy. 43 near Laurel St. in Lake Oswego next week. A second, northbound crew will begin pipeline construction in mid-November on Hwy. 43 near Mapleton Drive in West Linn, working north toward Lake Oswego. Schedules are subject to change.

Construction work hours were originally scheduled for weeknights, but to increase safety and minimize impacts to businesses and traffic, work will now occur at night, from Sunday night to Friday morning between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. In most areas on Hwy. 43, two way traffic will be maintained during construction hours. All travel lanes will be open during the day.
