Gladstone Pipeline and River Intake Construction Update
This update includes construction work in the following areas:
- River Intake Pump Station (RIPS)
- Gladstone pipeline work - W. Clackamas Blvd. and Portland Ave.
- Meldrum Bar Park pipeline work - drilling site
River Intake Pump Station (RIPS)
Architectural wall panels are almost complete, and glass is being installed for the doors and windows through early December. Plumbing and electrical work for the new transformers and concrete pads continues within the site and new structure. Conduit is now installed in the concrete pads, and crews are pulling electrical wires through the conduit over the next few weeks. Work has begun on installing the new roof, which continues through December, although this is weather dependent. The new fish screens, which will make the river intake more “fish friendly,” will be installed in December.
There will be no work on Thanksgiving, the day after Thanksgiving or Saturday Nov. 29.
Gladstone pipeline work - W. Clackamas Blvd. and Portland Ave.
Work at the intersection of W. Clackamas Blvd. and Portland Ave. is delayed due to problems with the layout and conditions. Crews will backfill and place steel sheets this week, but keep the intersection closed for safety over Thanksgiving (pictured right).
During the first two weeks of December, crews will begin installing a 6-inch water line for the City of Gladstone, along Portland Ave. between Arlington Ave. and W. Clackamas Blvd., and along W. Clackamas Blvd. between Portland and Bellevue Aves. During this time, the road will be closed to through traffic. The work will require connections to the existing main, along with new services for some properties. There may be some short water shutoffs required, and any affected properties will be notified by the City of Gladstone.
In mid-December, work will resume on the pipeline crossing at the intersection of Portland Ave. and W. Clackamas Blvd. to complete the crossing. Weather permitting, work is expected to be complete before Christmas.
Please watch for signage directing you safely around all pipeline work as there is no pedestrian or bike access during construction.
Some key information about construction:
- Traffic detours and temporary closures will be in place, usually one block at a time
- Equipment and material (e.g., gravel, pipe, etc.) will be stored and parked in the right-of-way
- No on-street parking in the one block closure zone during construction
- Truck traffic and construction noise during construction
Work hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday. There will be no work on Thanksgiving, the day after Thanksgiving or Saturday, Nov. 29.
Meldrum Bar Park pipeline work - horizontal directional drilling site
In December, some of the site blocks and support that was installed prior to construction will be removed. For safety, the site will remain fenced over the next few months.
We wish everyone a happy and safe Thanksgiving.
