Pipe installation under the Willamette River – a major milestone reached!
The Lake Oswego Tigard Water Partnership achieved a major project milestone this fall with the installation of a new 36-inch diameter waterline under the Willamette River. This monumental endeavor was accomplished with minimal impacts to riverbeds, water and wildlife.
This short video shares the story of this remarkable feat of engineering ingenuity.
After over six months of careful planning and prep work, 3,900 feet of steel pipe was pulled through a pre-drilled tunnel in just under 12 hours.
A total of four barge mounted cranes and two land-based cranes were needed to loft the pipe at the correct angle to be inserted into the tunnel.
Thank you to all the talented and dedicated people who made horizontal directional drilling and pipe pull-back a success.
