Water Treatment Plant Construction Update
Work occurring on site over the next few weeks includes:
Finished water pump station and clearwell - south and center of site
Crews are working on the structural decking and mechanical piping for the finished water pump station.
Exterior coatings are now complete for the clearwell. This week, crews began using the large vibratory compactor to compress the fill and gravel around the clearwell. Backfilling of the clearwell is expected to take several weeks to complete. Neighbors located close to the site and south of the site on Mapleton Drive can expect an increase in vibration during the fill placement and compaction of the clearwell.
Ballasted flocculation – center of site
Crews are placing insulation and roof panels. Plumbing and piping continues to be installed within the structure.
Miscellaneous work: piping, conduit and vaults - east and center of site
Piping, vault and conduit work continues on the east of the site, near the solids storage building and clearwell, and the center of the site, in between the chemical building and ballasted flocculation. Neighbors close to the site may notice an increase in vibration during the excavation and backfilling as part of this work.
Solids storage building, mechanical dewatering building and gravity thickener - northeast of site
Architectural siding panels are now complete for the solids storage building. Electricians continue to install conduit and fixtures.
Brick veneer is in place for the mechanical dewatering building, with crews now working on the siding panels. Electricians continue to install lighting and electrical fixtures through the month.
Work will soon begin on startup and commissioning of these three structures, which all play a role in the solids removal process. Solids consist of soil or sediments from the river, and the alum that was used to remove the soil from the water.
Miscellaneous work: piping, manholes, auger cast piles and vaults - east and center of site
Piping, vaults and the installation of manholes continues on the east of the site, near the gravity thickener and clearwell, and the center of the site, in between the electrical building and ballasted flocculation. Neighbors close to the site may notice an increase in vibration during the excavation and backfilling. In mid-February, crews will resume drilling auger cast piles to support piping on the east of the site.
Chemical & electrical buildings – center of site
This week the brick veneer on the east side of the chemical building was completed. The gypsum board was installed on the exterior of the second floor of the electrical building. Protective coatings are being applied on the interior of the chemical building structure for the next week or two. Neighbors located close to the site may notice an increase in odor during this time.
For the electrical building, crews have started on part of the HVAC system and electricians are working inside the structure. Once the roof insulation is complete, the electrical building will be tented to allow weather barrier coatings to be applied in dry conditions. Work will then begin on installing the brick veneer and siding panels.
Work hours are Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
