Crews moving steadily along on Highway 43 near Shady Hollow Way

Pipeline construction along Highway 43 in West Linn continues at a steady pace. Crews are currently working between Lazy River Drive and Shady Hollow Way placing between 100-150 feet of pipe each night.

This week, crews painted additional temporary striping in areas on Highway 43 to improve lane delineation and patched potholes. They’re also sweeping loose gravel this afternoon. Steel plates and temporary pavement patches are present in the roadway, which can leave the road rough and uneven—driving at slower speeds is recommended. These delays are temporary and we appreciate your patience during this time.

Progress has recently improved for the second crew installing pipe near Furman Drive in Lake Oswego. They have worked through most of the rock they encountered while excavating the pipe trench and are progressing at about 100 feet each night. A rock hammer may be used occasionally to help get through a few small areas, which could create an increase in noise.

In March, the two crews will likely be too close to safely work together - one crew will remain to install the rest of the pipe on Highway 43, another will work on placing a more permanent pavement patch over portions of the roadway. Final paving of the roadway where the pipe was installed will occur once the construction is complete on Highway 43 and the new pipe is tested and disinfected, likely this summer.

Nighttime work hours are 8 p.m. – 5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. During construction, in most areas, one lane will be open at a time, with flaggers guiding traffic in each direction.

Please drive with caution while traveling through the construction zones and be sure to follow the directions given by flaggers.

Exploratory digging on Mapleton Drive to begin in March

Starting in March, a crew will begin preliminary work along the water pipeline route on Mapleton Drive. They will be digging small holes in the right of way to ensure the pipeline does not conflict with existing utilities in the area. Workers will use a vacuum truck, small drill rig and small excavator—neighbors may notice some noise during this time. The holes will be repaired as work progresses.

Work hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. While the crews work, there will be a single-lane closure to accommodate equipment, but no total street closure. Please watch for flaggers. This work is expected to be complete in April.

Pipeline construction on Mapleton Drive is expected to begin this spring.
