Bonita Road Pipeline
This week, crews will begin the process of tunneling under I-5 to install the pipeline from the area near Paul Schatz Furniture Store in Tigard to the area near Ethan Allen in Lake Oswego, off Bangy Road. This work is expected to take about a month to complete. Over the next two weeks, crews will also demolish the existing pump station located in the right-of-way off Bonita Road and Sequoia Parkway. Both of these activities will be out of the travel lanes and occur during the day, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Night work continues, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., along the pipeline alignment on Bonita Road, between the railroad tracks and 72nd Avenue (pictured above). This work includes exploratory digging to ensure the pipeline route does not conflict with existing utilities and switching water services for a few businesses along Bonita Road. Steel plates will be placed in the road while crews are not actively working in the area. The eastbound lane of Bonita Road will be closed during work hours and traffic will be routed onto 74th Avenue and Durham Road. Please expect some temporary delays during this time.
Initial pipeline installation is expected to begin this week between 72nd Avenue and Sequoia Parkway working towards I-5. Work hours are 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. Crews are expecting to install about 50 feet of pipe each night. As they install the pipeline, crews will temporarily patch the road. Final paving will occur after the pipe is pressure tested and disinfected, likely in early fall 2015.
Later this month, a shaft will be excavated in the center lane of Bonita Road near 74th Avenue. This shaft will be used by crews to install the pipeline underneath the railroad tracks using an auger bore. The shaft will be present 24 hours a day, seven days a week for about two months. While it is in place, there will be no left turns permitted from 74th Avenue onto Bonita Road. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Bonita Pump Station
This week, crews will be pressure testing waterlines at the Bonita Pump Station while continuing to work on electrical and HVAC systems (pictured above) inside the pump station. A generator recently arrived on site, which will provide the pump station with back-up power in case of an emergency. In the next several weeks, crews will enclose the generator inside a structure near the pump station and the area surrounding it will be landscaped.
Crews will begin preparing Milton Court for new curbs and sidewalks this week, and plan to pour them next week. In early May, crews expect to pave the street. Please note, the final paving and curb/sidewalk installation is weather dependent.
About Bonita Pump Station
The Bonita Pump Station will connect with several local water systems including Lake Oswego, Portland and Washington County. This supply collaboration will keep Tigard protected should one water supply become interrupted. Completion is expected in summer 2015.
