River Intake Pump Station (RIPS) - demolition begins this summer
With the three-month commissioning period underway for the new pumps, construction activities have been fairly quiet at the site. In a few weeks, an excavator will begin backfilling part of the site near the new RIPS bridge.
In summer, the existing intake will be demolished. Once this is complete, the area will be landscaped.
Exeter Street - pipe installation almost finished
Crews are almost finished installing pipe at the end of Exeter Street, west of Barton Avenue. During this time, Exeter Street, between Barton and the end of Exeter, is closed to traffic during work hours. Equipment and materials are stored and parked in the right-of-way along Exeter Street.
Over the next few weeks, crews will work on grouting, filling and testing the pipe, along with installing air valves and drains, as part of the water system.
Bellevue Avenue - restoration and curb work
Work has started on preparing the subgrade and forming portions of the new curbs along Bellevue Avenue, between W. Clackamas Boulevard and Exeter Street. Crews are pouring the curbs on one side at a time to allow residents to park on the other side of the street. During this time, there will be periods where the road is temporarily closed to traffic, so the new concrete can dry. Residents located along Bellevue Avenue will receive a door hanger or notice 48 hours prior to the expected work.
Final paving along the streets where the pipe has been installed is expected to occur this summer.
Jensen Road pathway - pipe installation to resume in late May
In late May, crews are expected to resume pipe installation along the Jensen Road pathway, from the ballfield parking lot to the end of Jensen Road, near River Road. Work along the pathway will be done during the day, from 7 a.m. – 6 p.m., Monday to Friday.
Neighbors can expect to see and hear excavators, loaders, pipe, steel plates, gravel and dump trucks. During work hours, there may be an increase in noise, truck traffic and vribation, depending on neighbors’s locations. Trucks and equipment will enter and exit the pathway from both River Road and Meldrum Bar Park. To maintain safety, the pathway will remain closed during construction.
Crews encountered some difficulties microtunneling the pipe under River Road and McLoughlin Boulevard. Moving forward, the contractor will use a different method to install the remainder of the pipe to connect to Exeter Street. More information will be provided soon regarding this work.
