River Intake Pump Station (RIPS) – demolition continues
The deck, pump room floor and access bridge have been removed from the existing RIPS (pictured left)! Crews have also established access to the bank and river level to enable scaffolding to be built. Demolition and removal of mechanical equipment will begin over the next few weeks.
Crews continue to sawcut pieces of concrete and walls using a wire saw to break it into smaller pieces before removing it offsite to be recycled. Neighbors will notice an increase in noise, truck traffic and potential vibration during this work.
Demolition is expected to be complete by the end of August. After completion, the area will be landscaped and repaved.
The RIPS contractor will be working Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. – 6 p.m., and occasional Saturdays.
Jensen Rd. pathway and River Rd. – pipe installation progressing
Crews are installing the last few pieces of pipe at the end of Jensen Road pathway. Tomorrow, they will begin progressing across River Road and into the Nissan dealership. During this work, River Road will be closed to through traffic between Gloucester Street and McLoughlin Boulevard. Please follow the detour routes and watch for signage. Access for local traffic and emergency vehicles is maintained. Work hours are 7 a.m. – 6 p.m., Monday to Friday.
To maintain safety, the Jensen Road pathway will remain closed during construction.
Nissan dealership, McLoughlin Blvd. and Teriyaki Grill – final pipeline crossing
Crews are currently excavating in the Nissan dealership lot to expose and recover the tunnel boring machine (trench box pictured above). Tomorrow, a large crane will be mobilized to the site to help remove the machine. Over the next few weeks, crews will lay casings in the lot, which the steel pipe will be inserted into.
A second crew is also working in the Teriyaki Grill and Coffee House parking lot, to install casing and pipe. A temporary ramp will be constructed at the dead-end of Exeter Street. Work hours in the Nissan and Teriyaki Grill lots are 7 a.m.- 6 p.m., Monday – Friday.
In early-mid August, crews will install the remainder of the pipe across McLoughlin Boulevard. To minimize impacts to traffic and businesses, work on McLoughlin will be conducted at night, which is required under the ODOT permit. Work hours will be Sunday – Thursday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. Lane closures will be in place during work hours, with flaggers directing traffic. Steel plates may be present in the roadway during the day. Crews will temporarily patch the pavement as work progresses. Once the pipe is tested and disinfected, final paving will occur.
