State Street Construction – 48-hour weekend construction begins Aug. 15

Beginning Saturday, Aug. 15 at 6 a.m., crews will start a period of 48-hour, continuous work to install the new pipeline under the railroad tracks on State Street (Highway 43) in Lake Oswego. Construction is expected to occur until as late as 6 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 17.

Drivers should expect delays in downtown Lake Oswego during this 48-hour period, particularly during the Monday morning commute. The Partnership encourages drivers to avoid the area, if possible, and use alternate routes.

The 48-hour construction timeframe, as well as the dates and times, are determined by Genesee & Wyoming, the company that operates the railroad.

Several lane closures will be in place in the northbound and southbound lanes between B Avenue and Foothills Road. Both northbound and southbound lanes of traffic will likely be diverted into a single lane with flaggers directing traffic. Flaggers will be stationed along State Street at B Avenue, A Avenue and Foothills Road, and the traffic signals will be turned off.

Highway 43 – striping underway

All traffic loops have been reinstalled along the two-mile pipeline route. Final striping is now underway, and should be complete in the next week. Nighttime work hours on Highway 43 are 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. During work hours, one lane will be open at a time, in most areas, with flaggers guiding traffic in each direction.

Mapleton Drive - major pipeline construction expected to begin week of Aug. 17

Crews plan to start open-cut, trenched water pipeline work the week of Aug. 17, at the eastern end of Mapleton Drive, working toward Nixon Avenue.

During pipeline construction, the eastern end of Mapleton Drive, south of Nixon Avenue, will be closed to through traffic. Once crews work past the Nixon Avenue and Mapleton Drive intersection, a detour will be in place during work hours. During construction hours, residents located east of the active work zone will need to use the detour route on Nixon Avenue and Cedaroak Drive.

To prepare for the major pipeline work, next week crews will begin mobilizing equipment along the right-of-way, setting up the temporary storage area on the south side of the Water Treatment Plant site, placing tree protection fencing in the active work area and conducting exploratory digging in the roadway. During this work, there may be single lane closures with flaggers directing traffic.

Work hours and what to expect

Work hours on Mapleton Drive are Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. and Saturdays, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Neighbors can expect to see and hear excavators, generators, loaders, saw-cutters, compressors, pipe, steel plates, gravel and dump trucks in the work area and right-of-way. During work hours, there can be an increase in noise, truck traffic and vibration, depending on neighbors’ locations.
