48-hour weekend construction on State Street begins Saturday, Aug. 15

Railroad crossing near Foothills Road on State Street (Highway 43) in Lake Oswego.

Pipeline Work at Railroad Crossing on State Street Requires 48-Hour Weekend Construction Beginning Aug. 15

Beginning Saturday, Aug. 15 at 6 a.m., crews will start a period of 48-hour, continuous work to install the Lake Oswego Tigard Water Partnership’s new pipeline under the railroad tracks on State Street (Highway 43). Construction is expected to occur until as late as 6 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 17.

Drivers should expect delays in downtown Lake Oswego during this 48-hour period, particularly during the Monday morning commute. The Partnership encourages drivers to avoid the area, if possible, and use alternate routes.

The 48-hour construction timeframe, as well as the dates and times, are determined by Genesee & Wyoming, the company that operates the railroad.

The work will be centered at the intersection of State Street and A Avenue, however, the active traffic control zone will stretch from B Avenue to Foothills Road. During this time, several lane closures will be in place in the northbound and southbound lanes of State Street between B Avenue and Foothills Road.

Crews are currently planning to divert both the northbound and southbound lanes of traffic into a single lane with flaggers directing traffic. Flaggers will be stationed along State Street, A Avenue and Foothills Road with the traffic signals turned off. Flaggers will also be stationed on A Avenue to direct vehicles turning right or left onto State Street.

As a reminder, regularly schedule pipeline construction on Friday, Aug. 14 will proceed as planned from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

This work is part of the final phase of construction in Lake Oswego to install a stronger, more resilient drinking water pipeline. After crossing the railroad tracks, crews will install the pipeline along a portion of Foothills Road, through the Oswego Village Shopping Center, the Old Town neighborhood, George Rogers Park and along McVey Avenue. This phase of construction is expected to finish in early 2016.
