This update includes information about the following topics.

  • Mapleton Drive pipeline – finished (treated) water pipe installation underway

  • Neighborhood construction meetings – next meeting Nov.17 at 6 p.m.

Mapleton Drive - finished (treated) water pipe installation begins early November

This week, crews started installing the finished (treated) water pipe on Mapleton Drive, near the treatment plant (pictured right). About half of the total pipe (raw and treated) on Mapleton Drive is now installed. Crews are working their way westward and will soon be past the treatment plant.

At this stage, crews are planning to continue installing pipe until they reach the area near 4020 Mapleton Drive, where the sewer line will be relocated. Crews will then relocate the sewer and resume installing the water pipe. During this work, the road will remain closed in the active work area and the detour route will be in place.

Next week, the raw water pipe that was installed will be filled and pressure tested.

Please note, construction priorities and schedules are subject to change.

Road closure and detour route during pipeline construction

During work hours, a detour is in place and no through traffic is allowed in the active work zone on Mapleton Drive. Please follow the detour signage directing traffic around the closure area.

The road is closed to through traffic at the active work zone as it moves along Mapleton Drive. Residents located east of the active work zone will need to use the detour route on Nixon Avenue, Elmran Drive and Cedaroak Drive during work hours (refer to detour map link above). Residents located west of the active work zone can use Mapleton Drive between their home and Highway 43 during work hours.
For more information about road closures and detours, refer to the guidelines.

Work hours and what to expect

Work hours on Mapleton Drive are typically Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. and Saturdays, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. No pipeline work is planned for Saturday, Nov. 7. In observance of Thanksgiving, no pipeline work will take place from Thursday, Nov. 26 – Sunday, Nov. 29.

Neighbors can expect to see and hear excavators, generators, loaders, saw-cutters, compressors, pipe, steel plates, gravel and dump trucks in the work area, staging areas and right-of-way on Mapleton Drive. During work hours, there will be an increase in noise, truck traffic and vibration, depending on neighbors’ locations.

Crew members or Partnership staff will notify affected residents who may have their driveways blocked during pipeline construction work hours—typically one to three days in advance—to explain which driveways will be impacted and coordinate parking.

Raw water pipe paving tentatively scheduled week of Nov. 16

Final paving and restoration of the roadway on Mapleton Drive, Kenthorpe Way and Old River Road will now be conducted by the City of West Linn and its contractors.

The city’s goal is to place a 4-inch layer of asphalt this fall over the roadway where the raw water pipe was installed, between the east end of Mapleton Drive and the eastern entrance of the treatment plant. The final 2-inch layer, including driveway aprons, is expected to be installed in spring 2016. The city has tentatively scheduled the 4-inch layer placement for the week of Nov. 16, however, this is weather dependent.

The City of West Linn will issue notifications and door hangers to affected neighbors before the work begins and will coordinate access and parking. For more information about paving, please contact the City of West Linn Public Works Department on 503-722-5500.
