Partnership wins 2016 Excellence in Communication Awards

2016 AWWA Excellence in
Communication Award

The Lake Oswego Tigard Water Partnership received an Excellence in Communication Award last week from the Pacific Northwest Section of the American Water Works Association.

The Partnership won Best Strategic Communications Plan for its comprehensive business outreach strategy for pipeline construction on Highway 43, a plan Partnership staff developed in response to community concerns about construction impacts in West Linn’s business district. The Plan included a “shop local” marketing campaign that used promotional videos, newspaper advertising, signage, reusable shopping bags and coupons to support and promote local businesses during construction. The Partnership was recognized for its proactive campaign to ensure that businesses were informed before construction began, and shoppers were encouraged to shop local during construction.

“It’s an honor to accept this excellence in communications award,” said Katy Kerklaan, the Partnership’s Citizen Information Specialist. “The Partnership was dedicated to supporting West Linn businesses during construction and they really appreciated the efforts we took to communicate with them. I am thankful for the opportunity to share our successful strategy with other utilities and communities around the northwest.”

The award was presented on May 6, 2016 at the Pacific Northwest Section American Water Works Association conference in Boise, Idaho.
