Waluga Reservoir 1 Roof Replacement Construction Update

Crews are making great progress with the roof demolition! All roof portions have been removed, and crews are now working on cutting and removing the roof columns. This work is expected to continue through next week. Neighbors should expect some intermittent noise from the column saw-cutting.

Now that the roof is removed, crews are breaking down the shoring support that was set up inside the tank. This was used to support the existing roof while it was saw-cut.

The jib (major arm) will be removed from the large crane mid-morning of December 1. Several trucks will be hauling it off-site. Neighbors should expect a slight increase in truck traffic on Carman Drive during this time.

Early next week, the large crane will lift a smaller crane inside the tank! The smaller crane will help remove the remaining columns, and begin forming the new columns and footings. Once the smaller crane is inside, the large crane will be removed and trucked off-site.

New activity starting soon – concrete placement for footings and columns

During the week of December 12, crews expect to begin forming footings for the new columns. Weather permitting, in mid-December, the first set of footings will be poured. Once the footings are in place, concrete placement for the columns will begin. Neighbors should expect an increase in noise and truck traffic during concrete pours, as a large pumper truck and concrete trucks will be operating on site.

Weather permitting, concrete pours for the footings and columns are scheduled to take place daily through early January. Concrete placement for the roof is expected to occur sometime in mid-January.

Over the next few weeks, neighbors can expect to see and hear a large crane operating overhead, a saw-cutter working inside the tank, concrete pumper trucks, concrete trucks and truck traffic carrying concrete columns, crane pieces and other materials.

Generally, work hours are Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. - 6 p.m., with some Saturdays, 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. In observance of Christmas, no work will occur on Saturday, December 24 through Monday, December 26. Crews will return on Tuesday, December 27.

Pedestrian access safety reminder
