Liquid Oxygen Tank to be filled at the WTP
Noise at the WTP: LOX Tank Fill Feb. 22-23
On Wednesday, February 22 and Thursday, February 23, the liquid oxygen (LOX) tank located in the center of the water treatment plant site, will be filled for the first time. LOX is a key element of the new ozone system, which will be used in the new water treatment process.
The tank fill is expected to begin around mid-morning on Wednesday, and continue through the early afternoon. A second, follow-up delivery will arrive on Thursday to complete the fill.
During the first fill of the new tank, the tank will need to be conditioned. This involves reducing the temperature of the tank by slowly introducing liquid oxygen inside the tank. During this activity, oxygen gas is vented to the surrounding air. Neighbors may notice a loud, intermittent blowing or whistling noise and a visible vapor coming from the tank area. The vapor is safe – it is nothing more than moisture in the air condensing as the cold, oxygen gas is vented.
The LOX supplier will be following strict safety protocols for the delivery of LOX and filling of the tank.
Thank you for your patience during this activity.
